HImalayan Brown Bear
Brown Bear
About
The Himalayan Brown Bear is one of the rarest bear subspecies in India, inhabiting the high-altitude alpine meadows and cold deserts of the Himalayas. It has light brown to reddish-brown fur, a powerful build, and is an omnivore, feeding on grasses, roots, berries, insects, and small animals. The species hibernates during winter and plays an important role in maintaining the mountain ecosystem. Due to habitat loss and small, fragmented populations, it is a species of conservation concern and is protected under Schedule I of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.
